Here is to looking forward and enjoying the small moments

Our Story

I met Brett for the first time while I was hanging out with his best friend Wes (who I had recently met and would later date for a short time). Wes and I were with some of our other friends on our way to Savers Thrift store to try to find some clothes for a western themed party we were going to later that night. Wes had seen Brett as we were on our way to get in the car to drive to the thrift store and had dragged him along with us. While the rest of us shopped, Brett sat on the couch and studied.
Brett and I were friends for quite sometime but we never spent time together as a pair f( mostly because I dated his friend in the middle) for over six month. The first time we did was one night in the early spring when we went on an official date out eat and then went dancing.  After that night he asked if he could take me out again sometime. Of course, that was fine with me but it there weren't really any major sparks or anything but I did really enjoy being around him and spending time with him. I really liked the way he treated me (a perfect gentlemen) and how comfortable we were when we were together. So that was all nice and it was nice to know that sometime in the future I had somehow managed a second date... but the next time I saw him, about a week and half or two weeks later he was dating someone else... and I wasn't happy about it. Mostly, I really didn't think they fit together at all and I was upset/confused why he would ask to take me out again if he was planning to just start dating someone else. Needless to say i kept my distance for a time and then everything mellowed out and we were just friends as we had always been. By June he was preparing to leave for basic training and that was sad but I was also proud of him for his choice and his desire to serve our country.

There wasn't really anything I could do about him leaving for basic training, and like I said, I was proud of him, but I also knew I was going to miss him, but just as a friend. While he was gone I thought about him every once in while but I knew he wasn't allowed to have his phone and didn't have any address that I could send him a letter so I would think about him and then I would move on. Then, one day I got a phone call. I missed the call , but I got a message and it was from Brett. Yay! I tried to call him back but that didn't work out too well. Eventually he got a hold of me again and we were able to talk back and forth for the rest of his time at his Technical school.

When he got home at the end of October we went on another date but then we were just friends again for the next two or three months. By the new year we were spending a lot more time together. Brett was coming down and hanging out with me and my roommates almost every night. Then, one Sunday in mid January he asked if we could go on a walk when he got off drill the next day. I was panicking. I still wasn't sure how I really felt about him but I knew I sort of liked him but I wasn't sure if I liked him enough or if I was really over a variety of other things that I had been dealing with the past couple of months. I didn't know what I would say to him if he wanted to talk about the possibility of a relationship because I was sure no matter how confused I was about my own feelings I was sure that I definitely didn't want to ruin our friendship. Well, the next night came ( after me freaking out for over 24 hours) and he didn't say a thing about any kind of potential relationship not one thing at all. We just went on a walk and talked about other things. The next week he spent time with me everyday.

On the next Sunday all of my roommates were gone and I was alone. I knew what I really wanted was to spend the night with Brett but I also knew that if I texted him it would bother him and he would feel like I was being pushy-- which I knew he hated. Little did I know, he was sitting at his house, on his bed WAITING for me to text him. ugh!! and they say girls can be frustrating! Well, eventually I gave in and I did text him. He came over and the instant he walked in the door he was rattling off questions like we were playing 20 questions or something. As we were sitting on the couch and talking (sitting close together of course) he reached over and grabbed my hand. I was confused and not exactly sure what to do next. I sort of left my hand in his for an awkward moment but then I looked at him and asked him what it meant. He sort of just looked at me with a little smile and said, I guess it means we're dating; and that was that.

We dated from the middle of January until he proposed on the 14 of June 2011  (he first told me he loved me in March) and we were married on the 16th of September 2011 two years to the very Friday that I met him for the first time on our crazy trip to Savers.
